The Simpler Service Autopilot Alternative for Solo Lawn Care Pros

Service Autopilot is built for operations running hundreds of recurring accounts. Here is what it costs, what it does that Mowbius cannot, and when a one-person lawn business is better off with a $12.99 phone app.

Prices and platform facts verified August 2026. Software pricing changes often — check Service Autopilot's own pricing page before you decide.

Stay on Service Autopilot if you run a few hundred recurring accounts, bill them automatically, and get real value out of automations, route optimization, and job costing.

Switch to Mowbius if you are one person with a truck and a phone, you were sold a platform built for crews, and you mostly need a schedule, a customer list, and a record of what got paid.

What Service Autopilot Is, and Who It’s Really Built For

Service Autopilot is one of the oldest platforms in the green industry. Xplor Pay’s own acquisition announcement puts the founding at 2009, in Richardson, Texas, by Jonathan Pototschnik and John Caldwell, and records that Xplor took a controlling interest in August 2019; some directory profiles date the company to 2006 instead. It has been part of the Xplor Technologies portfolio ever since.

What it sells is automation for volume. Recurring billing, an automations marketplace, route optimization, job costing, two-way texting, employee and asset tracking, a marketing suite, QuickBooks sync, GPS. The company’s own positioning aims at recurring-service businesses running lawn care, cleaning, and snow removal at a scale where those tools pay for themselves, which in practice means a few hundred accounts and crews in more than one truck.

That is a real product for a real customer. It is just not you, if you are the only person on the payroll. Every price below assumes an operation with an office and a field team, and the plan structure makes that explicit: even the $499 tier includes exactly one business user.

Service Autopilot’s Pricing in 2026, Fully Broken Down

Verified August 2026 on Service Autopilot’s own pricing page. All four plans are quoted at annual subscription rates, and every one of them is listed with a sign-up fee added.

  • Startup, $49/month. One business user, one mobile license.
  • Pro, $199/month. One business user, two mobile licenses.
  • Pro Plus, $499/month. One business user, five mobile licenses.
  • Elite, custom pricing. Two business users, eight mobile licenses.
  • The sign-up fee. Every published price is followed by a note that a sign-up fee applies. Service Autopilot does not publish the amount on its pricing page, so it comes out of a sales conversation.
  • Extra seats. Business users and mobile licenses are capped per plan and extra seats are not publicly priced.

Two things worth knowing before you compare tiers. A first-hand review of the pricing page by Landscapey reports that route optimization, one of the platform’s headline features, does not appear until the Pro plan, and that QuickBooks integration is a priced add-on below the top tier. And directory listings quoting $279 to $849 per month are out of date; the vendor’s page is the number that counts.

For a solo, the arithmetic is short. The cheapest plan at annual rates is $588 a year before the sign-up fee. Mowbius is $59.99 a year, with no fee to start and nothing metered.

Where Service Autopilot Frustrates Solo Operators

These are complaints from public reviews, not our findings:

  • The learning curve. Capterra reviewers describe the software as complex and time-consuming to implement, and several say it becomes straightforward only after you have learned the system.
  • The sign-up fee. Reviewers and pricing write-ups both flag that the fee is attached to every plan but never published, so the real first-year cost is unknown until you talk to sales.
  • Rising prices. Capterra reviewers report annual increases, with one describing a further 10% rise while the feature set stood still.
  • QuickBooks sync. Directory reviews cluster around it: owners reporting billing errors from the QuickBooks Online integration, and a migrating user reporting bugs and days spent importing.
  • The mobile app. Store reviews run mixed to poor. One App Store reviewer called it “not user friendly at all.”

None of this makes Service Autopilot a bad platform for the business it was designed for. It is the specific set of frictions that hits hardest when one person is paying the bill and doing the setup alone.

What Service Autopilot Does Better Than Mowbius

This is the honest part, and the list is long. Stay on Service Autopilot if you need any of the following, because Mowbius has none of it:

  • Invoicing, estimates, and a recurring-billing engine
  • Card payment processing
  • Route optimization and job costing
  • Automations, two-way texting, and customer reminders
  • A marketing suite and campaign tracking
  • QuickBooks two-way sync
  • Crew scheduling, dispatch, GPS, and employee time tracking
  • A full web application for office work
  • Data import and export, including CSV

Mowbius does not compete with any of that. It is a phone app for one person, and Service Autopilot is a business platform for an operation with staff.

Where Mowbius Wins

  • Price, by close to a factor of ten. $12.99 a month or $59.99 a year, against $588 a year for the cheapest Service Autopilot plan before its sign-up fee.
  • No sign-up fee and no contract. Mowbius is billed by the App Store or Google Play and cancels in your store settings, with nothing to negotiate and no annual term to sit out.
  • No seat metering. There is one subscription and one set of features. Nothing is capped, and the paywall’s own promise is to Schedule Unlimited Jobs and Manage Unlimited Customers.
  • Usable in a day. Add a contact, add a property, and use Add New Job to build a job from your saved task and price catalog under Manage Tasks & Prices. There is no implementation project, because there is nothing to implement.
  • Fully offline. Your contacts, properties, jobs, and schedule live on the phone. The app works with no signal at all and syncs your changes the next time it connects. Service Autopilot is a connected platform.
  • Made for a phone. Native iOS and Android, no ads, with a Schedule tab offering calendar, Daily View, and Weekly View, and a Revenue tab showing Today’s Revenue, Unpaid Payments, and daily charts.

How to Switch

Service Autopilot sells on annual subscription rates, and its pricing page says you can upgrade at any time but downgrade only at the end of the contract period, so check your term dates before you plan a move. Your sign-up fee is already spent either way; that is a sunk cost, not a reason to stay another year.

Get your data out first. Service Autopilot supports CSV export, and its support team can help with a full export of customers and history. Do this while your account is still active.

Then expect to type. Mowbius has no import, so setting it up means entering your customers and their properties again. For a solo route that is an afternoon. Set each contact’s recurring schedule once and turn on Automatically Reschedule Jobs, and the schedule keeps filling itself. The 14-day trial includes every feature.

If invoicing is what keeps you on a platform, do not switch to Mowbius: compare LawnPro or Jobber instead, both of which invoice and both of which cost less than Service Autopilot. The full list is on the alternatives hub.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Service Autopilot cost?

Service Autopilot lists four plans on its own pricing page, all quoted at annual subscription rates: Startup at $49 per month, Pro at $199 per month, Pro Plus at $499 per month, and Elite at custom pricing. Every tier is shown with a sign-up fee added, and the amount of that fee is not published. Seats are metered: Startup includes one business user and one mobile license, Pro adds a second mobile license, Pro Plus includes five, and Elite includes two business users and eight mobile licenses. Prices verified August 2026 on serviceautopilot.com.

Does Service Autopilot have a free trial?

There is no free plan. Service Autopilot's pricing page carries a link labeled Get FREE Trial, but the trial terms are not published there and software directories including Capterra list Service Autopilot as having no free trial, so the only reliable answer is to ask their sales team. Mowbius has a 14-day free trial that includes every feature, started from the App Store or Google Play with no sales call.

Is Service Autopilot worth it for a solo operator?

Usually not. Service Autopilot is aimed at recurring-service businesses with a few hundred accounts and several crews, and its value comes from automations, recurring billing, route optimization, and job costing at that volume. A one-person operation pays the same annual rate and sign-up fee for capacity it will not use. If you do invoice through software and want the platform anyway, the entry plan is the one to price out; if you do not, the money is going to features you will never open.

What is the simplest alternative to Service Autopilot for one person?

Mowbius is the simplest option for a phone-only solo operator: $12.99 per month or $59.99 per year, no sign-up fee, no per-seat charges, and no contract, with customers, properties, jobs, schedule, and revenue in a native iOS and Android app that works with no signal. The trade is real: Mowbius has no invoicing, estimates, payment processing, or QuickBooks sync. If you need those at a lower price than Service Autopilot, look at LawnPro or Jobber instead.

Does Mowbius do recurring billing like Service Autopilot?

No. Mowbius does not bill anyone and no money moves through it. You close a job, tap Mark Paid when the customer pays, and the Revenue tab tracks Today's Revenue, Unpaid Payments, and a Forecast from your scheduled work. Service Autopilot's recurring-billing engine and card processing have no equivalent in Mowbius, which is the main reason to stay where you are.
